Holiday Paddle Mixer
Among the most cherished slots on the paddle calendar, the Ladies' and Men's Holiday Mixers offer old friends and new a chance to catch up on the court for fun but competitive play, with members of all skill levels. Matches extend through the morning, followed by a group lunch to warm the spirits with a generous serving of LCC camaraderie. Typically on a Friday, the Ladies' lunch features an exchange of witty banter, personal connection and meaningful debate. The men, who re-unite each year on a Sunday, exchange bottles in a brown paper bag.
Pair up with your spouse or check in with the tournament director who will perform a one-day marriage ceremony for you in this mixed doubles event. The competition is always fierce but stories abound of antics both on and off the court. Usually there are two divisions so no need to be intimidated. The day is filled with fun paddle and lots of laughter.
Going back to the early ‘70’s, this is the oldest of any paddle competition at the Lagunitas Club, and considered the granddaddy of the paddle season. The tournament has had many names through the years harkening back to the Ross Valley Hunt Club days. But whatever it has been called, it’s popularity has been consistent. This APTA Sanctioned, National Ranking tournament lures players from all over the country. The tourney has grown so large in recent years that it is arranged over a 4 day schedule with the women’s competition beginning on Thursday afternoon and flowing into all day Friday play. The men take to the cage on Friday evening, battling their way through the entire weekend. In between matches, the schedule is non-stop with a Friday night casual dinner, and a Saturday night extravaganza featuring a cocktail party, sit-down dinner and the ever popular raffle ( you can’t win a paddle if you don’t show up for the raffle! ). Both the women’s and men’s tourneys offer 2 levels of play, ensuring that everyone can compete and enjoy themselves on the court. The Championship Flight features high level competition and nationally ranked teams. The Ladies and Gentlemen’s Flights are always crowded with teams, newer and more seasoned, who want to show their mettle. The crowning glory for the Gentlemen’s champion is to have your name etched on the revered Griffith Cup. This tournament is not to be missed as it captures that special camaraderie that only paddle can create.
Our annual, late-season, competitive mixed doubles tournament. Member-member, member-guest, guest-guest, all pairings welcome. Depending on numbers, we may offer two flights. This is a great opportunity to pair up with a player from the opposite gender with whom you enjoy sharing the court.
Sign up with a partner and compete for a chance to go down in LCC paddle history!
